My name is Ben TeBockhorst and I’m a contemporary painter whose works explore the intersection of color, texture, and dimension. My dynamic paintings combine traditional materials such as canvas and acrylic mediums, while embracing applied textures through modeling paste, rice, and fabric. My pursuit of artistic impression is bold and is rooted in the abstract expressionist movement of the 1960’s.
I grew up in Davenport, Iowa and studied painting and design at Iowa State University, earning a degree in Fine Arts. After college, I spent some time away from painting which allowed my style to mature, helping me find my groove years later. Over the last two decades I’ve been painting and expressing my artistic vision off and on, never leaving the brushes unattended for too long.
My paintings have been featured in and around Phoenix, AZ in restaurants and galleries, along with showing in coffee shops and small shows in the Boulder, CO metro. I’ve had the privilege to sell and place my paintings in many homes and businesses along the way, helping each environment offer their occupants visual stimulation for years to come.
Through my work, I aim to challenge the viewer’s perception of color and texture, inviting them to reconsider the boundaries between the bold and the sublime.
